It includes the following 4 parts: The gum, the alveolar bone, the periodontal ligament and the cementum. Periodontitis is the name of the disease that can affect the periodontium. It is the reaction of the gums to irritation by dental plaque and tartar resulting from inadequate dental hygiene. It causes inflammation and bleeding of the gums. It occurs when there is an accumulation of tartar and plaque under the gums, causing the appearance of periodontal pockets (small space between the tooth and the gums). Virtually impossible to clean and accumulating plaque and tartar, these periodontal pockets continue to develop to the point of causing tooth mobility. This procedure is done under local anesthesia for greater comfort.
